Daniel Eugene Melançon founded dem Custom Computers in 2001 to build computers to customers’ exact specifications using only high-quality parts.

In 2002 Dan Melançon and Eva Williams married, and Eva joined the company, making the acronym significantly less egotistical.

DEM Custom Computers continues to help people design their own PCs, and then demCC sells those customer-designed PCs at lower prices than the giant manufacturers sell prefabricated conglomerations of inferior parts hidden in pretty boxes.

Daniel Melançon runs the core of the business, which is helping people choose what they want in a computer, designing a functional unit, and purchasing, assembling, installing, and testing the hardware and software that become the custom computers.

Benjamin Melançon designed and maintains the website.

Social Responsibility

We are in the process of incorporating DEM Custom Computers.  Under the laws of incorporation, the only legal obligation of a firm is to its shareholders.  This, in fact, is the overriding meaning of all laws that apply to corporations.  We don’t think that’s right.  And although we well understand that a solution to society&0146;s problems requires societal change, we can only start with what we can do individually.

Therefore dem Custom Computers is and will be a socially responsible business.  This means our obligations to our customers, workers, community, and environment are more important than the obligation to maximize the return to the owners’ investment.  Fortunately we can do this because Dan and Eva are the owners.

Concretely, social responsibility entails the following (and more):

• First, socially responsible business practices mean producing a good product that we stand behind.
• As the company becomes established, demCC will operate transparently.  We will post financial information and corporate decisions will be posted on this part of the web site.
• We are looking into adopting the e2m community-conscious economic model.
• Our commitment to trying to protect the environment begins with the 2000 Honda Insight hybrid (60+ mpg) your computer may be brought to your door in and includes taking back every computer we sell, when you no longer want it, for reuse of some parts and environmenally safe disposal of the others.
